What is the difference between bleached and unbleached prefolds
I started using the BBs after the first week when he was about 8 pounds and past the meconium stage. I used 7th Generation newborn sposies for the first week. I found the stay dry inserts weren't working well for his poop since it would go into the cover but didn't leak into clothes! Totally happy so far.
FoxHouse, What fold are you using for your newborn? FoxHouse, Your welcome! I've mostly been using the bikini twist for him. I also sometimes do the angel wing fold.
I wasn't sure what these were called before you asked so I googled different types of folds and after looking around a little I think I might try the jelly roll fold too. So far with the twist and angel folds I haven't had any messes. So far, so good! FoxHouse, Thanks for the info! I'm expecting my first baby in December and have been researching which folds to try with newborns. I will mostly be using BBs with prefolds at first too.
I got a few Thirsties Duo size 1 just as another option as well. Thanks to everyone for the replies as well. Guess I will be going for unbleached! Your Guide to the First Trimester of Pregnancy. Wow, makes your head spin right? You thought a diaper was a diaper right? Nope, we mommas like to have a choice!
When I first ventured back into the world of cloth diapers, I wanted to go with the cheapest option which was prefolds and covers. Previously I had used Gerber prefolds with pins and the pull up pants. I really didn't mind them, and they never bothered the kids even in the hot Florida summer weather.
As I began searching I had to choose between Chinese or Indian cotton and bleached and unbleached. With the unbleached, I have found them to be a little more absorbant, though harder to prep. Unbleached also hides stains better. It's a matter of personal preference really. I prefer the unbleached because as pp said, they don't show stains as much as the bleached.
They do take more to prep, but I always boil mine and then wash and they are ready to go. I like the stain-hiding unbleached as well. Plus, DS has eczema and I wasn't sure how the chlorine would affect him, if at all.
I just washed them several times in hot water, drying them after each wash, and they fluffed up just fine. We also have unbleached, but they do take several washings in hot water first.
