Why does god hate arrogance
Instead of expressing kindness and compassion, he expresses disparagement. He is convinced of his superiority in achievement, intellect, morality, or spirituality. He is self-obsessed. Pride is first an attitude of independence from God. It is synonymous in Scripture with scoffing, arrogance, foolishness, evil, and wickedness. It is directly opposed to the humble, God-fearing, meek, lowly, trusting, faith-filled disposition that is pleasing to God.
And no wonder. How could it be otherwise? Pride appears first in the list of seven deadly sins because Solomon is scanning the body from head to toe, but also because no trait is more abominable than this one. No vice is more opposed to God. God hates pride because it is a manifestation of the deepest depravity, the root cause of all forms of sin. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind.
Pride is a state of mind or, more essentially, a condition of the heart in which a person has supplanted the rule of God over his life with the rule of his own will. This was exactly the folly of Adam and Eve when they determined to disobey God to become like God.
Because pride is first an act of cosmic treason, an act of rebellion against God, it must be punished. No one is good except God alone. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.
But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him. Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.
They were haughty and did an abomination before me. So I removed them, when I saw it. The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,. As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires.
He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Do not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.
The pride of Israel testifies to his face; yet they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek him, for all this. The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle's, I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord. We have heard of the pride of Moab— how proud he is!
For the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low;. Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord , but he loves him who pursues righteousness. Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin. The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.
The proud one shall stumble and fall, with none to raise him up, and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all that is around him. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation.
Let all things be done for building up. For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,. And especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones, whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord.
But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing.
They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin.
They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor.
I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.
For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. His greed is as wide as Sheol; like death he has never enough. He gathers for himself all nations and collects as his own all peoples.
Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife. A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully and will share the inheritance as one of the brothers. The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests hearts.
An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue. Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished. Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones,. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue.
Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
For the Lord of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low;. It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.
The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.
The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.
He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame. A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and sleek. They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like the rest of mankind. Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods, because in this affair they dealt arrogantly with the people.
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.
For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. The Lord of hosts has purposed it, to defile the pompous pride of all glory, to dishonor all the honored of the earth.
